“By broadly implementing welfare technology, and thinking 'digital first', municipalities can both save employees' time, and – perhaps more importantly – enable the elderly to live independently for longer."

Welfare technology in municipalities

The Swedish Council of Local Authorities and Regions has developed support to facilitate the work of municipalities in determining the benefits and costs of specific welfare technologies. Please use SKR's benefit calculation to calculate the benefit your municipality would receive from starting to use medication dispensers in elderly care.

What do users think?

"Another effect of the medication robots is that it is possible to spread the visits more evenly throughout the day and not concentrate them around common medication times."

Welfare Administration
Kramfors municipality
"This has made it incredibly easy for us. Previously, all of these care recipients needed staff with full delegation, but full delegation is not required to give medication from a single-drug dispenser. Instead, we have introduced a lighter delegation that now means that in principle all of our staff have the right to give medication from a single-drug dispenser."

Johanna Tossman
Unit manager at the Skytten nursing home in Lycksele
"He is calm and secure in the fact that he has taken his medicine. He feels independent and grown-up and doesn't have to worry about us parents sneaking up on him all the time. We can let go of the worry and the thought of his medication – and we can also put the nagging of childhood behind us, which is a great relief for all of us."
Charlotte
Mother of Erik who has LSS support and an Evondo medicine dispenser in her own home
"Patients become more independent and involved in their own care and treatment. If the robots did not exist, it would be a major obstacle to giving medications at the right times when medications need to be taken several times a day, when someone leaves early for day care, or for people who live far from the health center."
