A medicine dispensing robot has a wide range of impacts

The Evondos service improves the quality and effectiveness of home care:

  • Adherence to pharmacotherapy. The robot directs the client to take medicines at the right time, which is important when treating Parkinson’s disease and other disorders. The service informs care staff if a dose has not been taken on time.
  • Improved drug safety. Care staff and relatives (where requested) can monitor medication remotely. The robot always dispenses the intended dose and withholds further medication.
  • Reduced need for routine pharmacotherapy calls. Home calls may focus on administering therapeutic measures.
  • Care staff working hours are easier to plan with fewer medication-related calls and pressure is taken off-peak times in the morning and afternoon.
  • Independent living is experienced by the home care client, which again in many instances has proven to reduce the need for help with other vital tasks.

As a partner in change

Making a medicine-dispensing robot part of conventional homecare working methods requires careful planning and managing change. The Evondos approach is structured to ensure proven results and is supported by positive experiences from hundreds of organisations across Europe.

Deployment often progresses in stages to ensure seamless integration into existing homecare methods. This step-by-step approach is critical for adapting to various organisational needs and environments, gradually building towards success.

Evondos is committed to supporting you throughout the entire deployment process. Our dedicated team works closely with you to manage change effectively, ensuring the successful implementation of our service.

The Evondos service is intended for individuals in cases where there are uncertainties in implementing independent pharmacotherapy. A medicine dispensing robot ensures that the user gets the right medicine at the right time and that future doses are kept out of the user’s reach in a locked medicine container.

The service has enhanced the medical adherence of clients to record high levels of  99% — enabling effective monitoring of pharmacotherapy and maintaining an electronic treatment record of each dose taken so that individual pharmacotherapy can be followed up.

A successful deployment

Your dedicated Evondos customer success project manager will guide you through every stage of the process, from initial planning to full implementation.

Key stages are tailored to meet the needs of each individual customer. Since its first deployment in 2017, Evondos Group has dispensed tens of millions of doses and completed over 500 successful deployment projects.

We continue to support customers throughout the entire journey. The success of each implementation is closely monitored using clear benchmarks, including service modules in use, doses dispensed by the medicine‑dispensing robot, any malfunction reports, and feedback from both homecare staff and service users.

The key stages applying to all customers are:

Planning

We work with the customer’s project manager to prepare a service plan defining clear objectives and timetables, the areas where the deployment will occur and the individuals responsible for operations.

Sharing information

Even when initially considering the potential deployment of the Evondos service, we arrange care staff information sessions for homecare teams, presenting the key principles, approach and impacts of the service.

Selecting clients

We support our customers in making the initial selection of clients when deploying the service for the first time. Client selection is always based on the defined objectives of the deployment, such as reducing the number of medicine restocking visits, improving pharmacotherapy or a combination of these aims.

Training

Our initial training during deployment focuses on administrators who register service users in the control system. These administrators then train the wider care team, who are primarily responsible for restocking the robot and may also communicate with clients via the mobile application.

Service deployment

Good deployment requires a systematic approach and firm leadership. Working practices must be reviewed and modified in order to gain the maximum benefit from healthcare technology. Customers can draw on our experience of more than 150 successful service deployments, and we remain available to support the customer at various stages of the deployment process.

Aside from the pre-defined key stages, Evondos also provide our customers with a 24/7 online learning environment, on-site training and 24/7 support to assure help is available when needed.

Proven results and benefits

Our approach has today supported hundreds of successful implementations across Europe.

Proven results from our customers show:

Reduced need for calls
Pharmacotherapy-related calls can be reduced when the robot has been programmed to manage the process of dispensing and administering medicines. The medicine dispensing robot issues reminders of the need to take medicines and sends an alert if the client fails to respond to these reminders.monthly_visits_reduced_EN_01

Significant financial impacts

Several local authorities and NHS organisations in the UK have reviewed the financial and operational impacts of using the Evondos service. The system helps reduce the need for medication visits by enabling clients to take responsibility for their own medication, with the robot providing guidance and support.

Early adopters have reported improvements in medication adherence and overall care quality. While the service can deliver significant benefits for a large proportion of homecare clients, careful assessment is recommended to ensure deployment is cost‑effective and tailored to local needs.

A major opportunity to alleviate the morning rush

Care functions are largely scheduled in the morning, making this the busiest time of day for care staff. Technology can help to relieve pressures at this peak time. Alleviating the morning rush can also reduce costs. Staffing of work shifts is often determined according to morning or evening peak period requirements, meaning that any alleviation of these peak times would also create an opportunity to even out staffing levels.

Pharmacotherapy is often time-critical, meaning that medicines must be taken at a certain time in order for treatment to proceed as planned by a medical practitioner. This constrains care staff work plans and nursing schedules. A medicine-dispensing robot can help to alleviate the pressures caused by this time-critical process, enabling more flexible planning of work schedules, for example with homecare calls shifted away from the morning peak period.

Assigning control of routine pharmacotherapy to a robot enables the rescheduling of functions away from peak periods. The workload can be distributed more evenly across the working day and allow for more meaningful tasks for the home care staff, and home-care clients.

More independent living

Experience shows that homecare clients respond positively to using robots and technology in their daily lives. Even those with cognitive or motor impairments can use these devices effectively.

The Evondos® Medicine Dispensing Robot has been designed to meet the needs of a wide range of users. It features a single, large control button and provides medication instructions both verbally and via large-print text and symbols on a clear, easy-to-read screen. In fact, anyone who can operate a doorbell can use an Evondos robot.

For many homecare clients, taking medication independently with the robot is an important step in demonstrating autonomy, allowing them to manage their care without relying on others.

Integrations

Effective integrations with Evondos services support precise and efficient workflows in healthcare organisations.

Evondos delivers flexible integration solutions designed to enhance your organization's workflow efficiency. For medical professionals, this means fewer repetitive tasks and more time to focus on client care, enhancing service quality and strengthening patient relationships.

Integrations act as a bridge between different kinds of computer systems across organisations.
