Frequently Asked Questions

What is an Evondos medicine dispensing robot?

Evondos is a smart medication dispenser that helps clients take their medication on time. With a reminder signal, the automatic dispenser notifies the client when it’s time to take their medicine. After the client presses the button, the medication dispenser offers correct number of pre-packaged sachets. Each sachet has a small tear notch, making it easy to open.

If the client hasn’t responded to the reminder within the set time span, the dispenser sends an alert to the care team.

For what type of end users is Evondos intended for?

The Evondos service is versatile, making it suitable for a wide range of clients with different dilemmas.

Some examples of user cases:

About the Evondos® robot

How easy is the robot to use?
Evondos without video

The robot is specifically designed to be simple to use. The person simply pushes a large green flashing button, and the medication is dispensed in a pre-cut pouch. No technical skills are needed.

Evondos with video-assisted medication administration

The robot can be programmed to answer care video calls automatically, without the need for any actions of the client, or the video call can be answered by tapping once on the touchscreen. To receive the medication during the video call, the person simply pushes a large physical green flashing button, and the medication is dispensed in a pre-cut pouch.

How big is an Evondos robot?

The robot requires as much space as a larger coffee brewer or a tabletop humidifier.

Where can the robot be placed?

The robot should be placed so it is convenient for the client to take their medications. For some people that is in the bedroom on a night stand or for example on the kitchen counter.

The robot should be placed on a flat surface, and should not get wet.

Does the robot need Wi-Fi?

No. The robot connects to the internet by its own integrated SIM-card. This means that the robot does not need to be connected to any network or wifi at the client's home.

What if the client is not at home?

Evondos without video

The robot reminds the client to take the medicine pouch several times within a preset timespan of 1.5-3 hours.

The audible signal increases in volume as the time to take the medicine approaches. If the medicines are not taken on time and the medication administration is delayed, the caregivers receive this information in real-time and can come and administer the medication in person, if necessary.

Using the robot does not tie the client to their home – with the assistance of a caregiver, they can take their medication along, for example, on a trip or to daily activities.

Evondos with video-assisted medication administration

If the client is not present when a caregiver tries to video call them, the caregiver can try to call again. If they cannot reach the client and the medication administration is at risk being delayed, the caregiver can come and administer the medication in person, if necessary.

Who can use the robot?

Almost any one! The robot is designed to be intuitive and easy to use, there is only one button on the robot, with only one functionality - to administer medicines. The button can be pressed only when the correct time window for administering the medication is open. At that time, the button is illuminated with a green light. If it is not the correct time for any medication, the button does not do anything, even if pressed.

The robot talks in a pre-selected language (can be different to the local language), plays audible signals (volume can be customized), and displays written instructions on the screen of the robot.

Thanks to these multiple different multi-sensory cues, the robot is extremely accessible, also for clients with memory impairments or difficulties with their hearing or sight.

About the Evondos® service

Why would someone choose a robot instead of traditional care?

Evondos is designed to support and reduce medication visits, not take away social interaction. In many ways, Evondos is safer than a face-to-face visit as there is little to no risk of medication being forgotten, missed or delayed.

If there is an error, staff are alerted and made aware of the problem. Compliance is over 99%, which is very difficult to achieve when you need to take human factors into account when dispensing medicines.

In addition, according to our experience, most people want to be independent and manage on their own. If a care recipient feels that they are getting lonely, another type of visit is needed. That visit can be scheduled for another time when it suits both parties regardless of medication schedule.

We have to make care visits anyway, is a robot necessary?

The advantage of having a medicine dispenser is that the personal care visits become less time-critical and dependent on the medicine times. A care recipient in pain can take their medicine themselves before staff arrive and then the medications have time to take effect.

How to ensure that the medication is taken?

With the video functionality the caregiver will see the care recipient when they take their medicines.

Without video assistance carers should assess that the care recipient is motivated to take their medicines and should provide continuous follow-up. They would then see alarms if the dose is missed and take appropriate action.

Pharmacy and medication-related questions

What is multidose packaging?
Multidose packaging means that the client receives their medications packaged in small pouches. It is usually one pouch for each dosing occasion, and the roll of pouches typically lasts for two weeks at a time.
What kind of medicines are compatible with multidose packaging?

Tablets, pills, capsules

Insulin and liquids cannot be pre-packed in a pouch.

However, when using an Evondos robot, it is possible to create recurring prompts and reminders to take other types of medicines than the ones that get administered by the robot.
